OUR STORY

historical-bowtie_edited.png

SINCE 1876

Our founder, Adolphus Busch, arrived in America from Germany in 1857, determined to make his dreams a reality. After fighting for the Union during the Civil War, Adolphus joined his father-in-law Eberhard Anheuser's company, bringing with him big, ambitious ideas. In 1879, the company’s name was officially changed to the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association. After Eberhard’s death in 1880, Adolphus became president.

Before Anheuser-Busch Bud was introduced, many Americans drank dark, full-bodied ales. But St. Louis summers were hot—perfect for a cool, refreshing lager. Anheuser-Busch Bud's smoothness and easy-drinking quality were a hit. Anheuser-Busch Bud quickly became extremely popular not only in St. Louis, but throughout America. And we’ve stayed true to the recipe ever since.
